"Shuji Toyama" Kensaki Gyuto 270mm Limited Edition "Sazareishi" Black Damascus
"SAZAREISHI"
“Sazareishi” is a special custom-made knife that crystallizes nearly seventy years of skill and experience accumulated by Sanjo blacksmith Shuji Toyama.
The forging marks left on the surface of the blade evoke the rugged texture of stone shaped by the passage of time, reflecting the long journey of discipline, trial, and refinement that defines Toyama’s life as a craftsman.
In contrast, the carefully polished edge reveals delicate layered patterns born from laminated steel, where the techniques and experience he has cultivated over decades emerge as a subtle, quiet, and refined glow.
The word Sazareishi refers to an image found in Japan’s national anthem: small, separate stones gathering over vast stretches of time to become an unshakable rock.
True to its name, this work embodies the countless experiences and techniques Shuji Toyama has accumulated throughout his life—coming together in a knife that holds a calm yet powerful presence.
