"Naoki Mazaki" Deba knife 150mm White#2steel
This 150mm Deba knife is handcrafted by Mr. Naoki Mazaki, a young
blacksmith from Sanyo Niigata. Mr. Mazaki's dedication is centered around the art of forging and sharpening. He carefully monitors the color of the flames, expertly forges the steel at precise temperatures, and even employs cold forging techniques to create a dense steel structure.
This results in an exceptional level of hardness, even with White #2 steel, reaching HRC63, making it both exceptionally hard and easy to sharpen with a whetstone.
Additionally, he meticulously hand-sharpens the bevel, ensuring a flawless, smooth surface without irregularities, which is another distinguishing feature of his craftsmanship.
Mr. Mazaki hails from Hokkaido. At the age of 26, while travelling throughout Japan, he encountered forged blades from Sanjo for the first time. This experience led him to become an apprentice under Mr. Tsuneo Yoshida, the former president of Yoshikane Hamono. After six years of rigorous training, he established the Mazaki Forging Workshop with a strong commitment to producing traditional and high-quality knives.
Even after becoming independent, he remains dedicated to learning and became an apprentice under the world-renowned master Kiyoshi Kato, known for the excellence of his craftsmanship under the brand name Yoshiaki Fujiwara.
